Keefe Memorial Hospital Recognized as Featured Member Community by the Colorado Rural Health Center

Denver, Colo. – March 15, 2016 – Colorado Rural Health Center (CRHC) recognized Keefe Memorial Hospital in Cheyenne Wells, Colorado as our Featured Member Community for March 2016.

The history of Keefe Memorial Hospital goes back to 1931 and while the hospital has grown, the commitment to the patient care and dignity, innovation and collaboration to expand services has remained the core value that drives the board, leadership and staff.

Keefe Memorial Hospital’s commitment to its values is evident in its national recognition for performance leadership in outcomes, patient perspectives and financial strength. Keefe Memorial Hospital’s reputation and recognition is based on data. Keefe Memorial Hospital has had consistently exemplary results from patient-driven surveys and data collection.

The Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS), a standardized survey and data collection instrument, has been used to measure excellence in patient care for almost ten years. In 2014, Keefe Memorial Hospital became a 2014 HCAHPS Excellence in Health Award Winner. Additionally, Keefe Memorial Hospital received five, five star awards indicating excellence in communication with doctors, communication with nurses, overall hospital rating, pain management, and responsiveness of staff. These recognitions set Keefe Memorial Hospital apart from most other hospitals in the country. These accolades are based on consistent data, and Keefe Memorial continues to perform well above average in patient care.

Keefe Memorial Hospital HCAHPS survey results are consistently well-above the average in Colorado and nationally. For example, 100 percent of patients reported the Keefe Memorial Hospital staff “always” explained medications before administering them, compared to an average of 66 percent in Colorado and 64 percent nationally. The average time patients spent in the emergency department before they were seen by a healthcare professional was ten minutes at Keefe Memorial Hospital, whereas the average wait times were a Colorado average of 18 minutes and 27 minutes nationally.

Keefe Memorial is a rural hospital facility in Colorado with general medical and surgical services. The hospital maintains 11 beds and admits approximately 70 admissions per year and performs approximately three outpatient surgeries per year.
