The Medicare EHR Incentive Program Hardship Application Deadline for All Providers is now July 1, 2016

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) announced that providers will be given additional time to apply for hardship exceptions from its Electronic Health Record (EHR) incentive payment program meaningful use requirements. To be eligible, providers must demonstrate meaningful use in either the Medicare EHR Incentive Program or in the Medicaid EHR Incentive Program.

CMS newly released hardship exception application forms are streamlined in an effort to reduce the amount of information that eligible professionals (EPs), eligible hospitals and Critical Access Hospitals (CAH) must submit to apply for an exception.

The new application deadline is July 1, 2016.

CAHs are required to use the specific CAH hardship exception relating not an EHR reporting period in 2015. CAHs that already submitted their exemption form for 2015 will not be required to resubmit under this change.

Previously, the deadlines were March 15, 2016 for physicians and other eligible professionals and April 1, 2016 for hospitals and critical access hospitals.
