- Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services
(CMS)
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) is a federal
agency within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. CMS
runs the Medicare and Medicaid programs - two national health care
programs that benefit about 75 million Americans. And with the Health
Resources and Services Administration, CMS runs the State Children's
Health Insurance Program (SCHIP), a program that is expected to cover
many of the approximately 10 million uninsured children in the United
States.
- Health Resources and Services Administration
(HRSA)
HRSA helps provide health resources for medically underserved populations.
HRSA supports a nationwide network of 643 community and migrant health
centers, and 144 primary care programs for the homeless and residents
of public housing, serving 8.1 million Americans each year. HRSA also
works to build the health care workforce and maintains the National
Health Service Corps, oversees the nation's organ transplantation
system, works to decrease infant mortality and improve child health
and provides services to people with AIDS through the Ryan White CARE
Act programs.
- National Health Service Corps
The National Health Service Corps is committed to improving the
health of the Nations underserved. We unite communities in need
with caring health professionals and support their efforts to build
better systems of care. Recruiting and retaining the right health
professionals to deliver health care in underserved communities often
involves developing and preparing sites and communities, and looking
for innovative solutions. Practicing primary care in a medically underserved
community is a career goal for many health professions students, medical
residents, and clinicians. The NHSC recruits, prepares, and supports
these dedicated students and clinicians through a variety of programs
and services.

Area Rural Health Roundtable Directory
This document is an invaluable resource for rural health professionals,
containing 600 organizations, businesses, associations, foundations,
and federal offices who are interested in rural health issues. (Note:
This is a rather large PDF document - 88 pages; please allow some time

Centers for Disease Control (CDC)
Located in beautiful Atlanta, GA, this organization provides state/national
information, resources, and research on disease control and injury prevention.
Topics on this site include the Healthy People 2010 report; causes,
rates, and risk factors for any given illness; and much more.
National Association of Rural Health
Clinics (NARHC)
The National Association of Rural Health Clinics (NARHC) is the only
national organization dedicated exclusively to improving the delivery
of quality, cost-effective health care in rural under served areas through
the Rural Health Clinics (RHC) Program. NARHC works with Congress, federal
agencies, and rural health allies to promote, expand, and protect the
RHC Program. Through the association, NARHC members become actively
engaged in the legislative and regulatory process. Please view this
Web Site as an information resource for and about the Rural Health Clinics
program.
National Rural Health
Association (NRHA)
The National Rural Health Association is a national membership organization
whose mission is to improve the health and healthcare of rural Americans
and to provide leadership on rural issues through advocacy, communications,
education and research. The NRHA is a non-profit association headquartered
in Kansas City, Missouri, with a government affairs office in Washington,
D.C.
National Institutes of
Health (NIH)
Provides state/national resources and current research related to disease
and health care services. Under "Data and Statistics" link
on home page, the site provides statistics and surveillance data on
many diseases and preventable injuries, including categories by state.
National Health
Information Center
Health information referral service that places health professionals
and consumers who have questions in touch with those organizations that
best able to provide answers. A search on "AIDS", for example,
would refer you to the National Association of People with AIDS or the
Elizabeth Glazer Pediatric AIDS Foundation.
Rural Information Center
(RIC)
The Rural Information Center (RIC) provides information and referral
services for rural communities, officials, organizations and citizens.
It provides customized information products to specific inquiries including
assistance in economic revitalization issues; local government planning
projects; funding sources; technical assistance programs; research studies;
and other related issues.
Indian Health Services
Provides a wealth of information and resources specifically for federally
recognized American Indian tribes. Site contains valuable links to the
Native Health Research Database, Native Health History Database, and
Indian Health Medicare/Children's Insurance.
Bureau of Primary Care - Health
Resource and Service Administration
BPC provides a searchable database that allows you to query search the
entire state of Colorado or counties within the state. The database
allow you to limit your search to the type (single county, geographic
area, population, facility), discipline (primary medical care, dental,
mental health), and/or status (designated, withdrawn, undetermined,
etc.) of an area. If designated, the date of the most designation will
be provided. Designations are required to be updated every three years.
Rural Policy Research
Institute (RUPRI)
The Rural Policy Research Institute (RUPRI) conducts policy-relevant
research and facilitates public dialogue to assist policymakers in understanding
the rural impacts of public policies and programs. RUPRI is currently
evaluating the CAH program on a national level through the Rural
Health Flexibility Program (RHFP) Tracking Project.
Technical
Assistance and Services Center (TASC) for the Rural Hospital Flexibility
Program - TASC is administered by the National Rural Health Resource
Center, providing information on the FLEX program, statistics on CAH,
tools
for CAH conversion, and federal/state
CAH resources.

A service developed by the National Council on Aging that identifies
federal and state assistance programs for older Americans. After entering
your financial information into an online questionnaire, Benefits CheckUp
explains for what benefit programs you would be eligible and how to
apply for them.
Colorado Medical Society
Through the variety of physician task forces, councils and committees,
the Colorado Medical Society continually monitors public health concerns,
proposed legislation relating to these and other health issues, and
recommends legislation which will work toward the accomplishment of
these goals.
USDA Colorado Rural
Development
Furnishing decent and safe rental housing options for rural residents
is accomplished through their support in developing 150 Multi-Family
housing complexes located statewide. Through their Farm Labor Housing
Loan and Grant Program, USDACAR is able to arrange for safe and sanitary
housing for domestic farm laborers in several locations across the state.
The Community and Business Programs assist rural areas with the proper
infrastructure, community facilities, and business opportunities necessary
to develop and sustain healthy rural communities.
Colorado Department
of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE)
CDPHE provides public and environmental health protection services for
the state of Colorado. Their site includes marriage and death certificate
records, state birth and death statistics, and health statistics for
Colorado.

Facilities Division (HFD) assures that patients and residents
receive quality care from health facilities and programs which are
licensed and/or certified and promotes health and safety through on-site
inspections and complaint investigations. The division licenses, certifies
and inspects the following types of healthcare providers.

of Health Care Policy and Financing (HCPF)
Organization provides information and resources related to emergency
services, health insurance, Medicaid, and indigent care in Colorado.
Colorado Assistive
Technology Project
CATP is a compilation of services, projects, activities, and research
dedicated to enhancing access to assistive technology at home, school,
work and play for individuals with disabilities, their families, employers,
and professionals providing services.
Colorado Community Health
Network (CCHN)
Provides a coordinating structure for non-profit community-based primary
health care programs to assure continued access to health care for medically
underserved Coloradans.
Colorado Rural Health Center
The Colorado Rural Health Center is a diverse mix of people, programs,
and places interested in Colorado's rural healthcare. The Center's mission
is to enhance healthcare services by providing information, education,
linkages, tools and energy toward addressing rural healthcare issues.
The Center provides or helps arrange for technical assistance to rural
communities so they can take full advantage of federal, state, public,
and private resources. The Center builds linkages among rural programs
and communities and urban and rural colleagues toward identifying and
addressing healthcare issues.
