Utilization Management Webinar  

All hospitals, including CAHs, must have a UM/UR Plan that describes the process used to review all services provided by the institution and by the members of the medical staff. In addition to assuring optimal healthcare delivery and positive patient outcomes, sound UM/UR practices are integral to achieving successful results during activities such as RA audits. Experts from the Joffit Group, will discuss the components involved in setting up an efficient UM/UR process and will review CRHC’s Utilization Management Resource for Critical Access Hospitals: a concise, easy-to-use tool for hospital providers and staff that explains the role of UM/UR in various CAH settings including: Inpatient, Outpatient, Observation, and Swing Bed. Cathy Battaglia, PhD, MSHA, RN Partner

Cathy has specific expertise in program development, project management, research and education. She brings a wide range of management and operations experience to clients in the healthcare industries, including managed care operations, physician practices, hospitals and health coalitions. Her qualifications translate to industries in both the public and private sectors. Cathy has a PhD in Clinical Sciences with an emphasis in health services research, focusing on rural health care policy and patient outcomes. She has a Master’s Degree of Health Care Administration and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing.

Dana G. Pepper, MPA, MBA, RN Partner

Dana is accomplished in strategic planning, regulatory compliance, and leadership development and training. Her experience includes executive administration in acute care, government, and accountable care organization settings. Most recently Dana has implemented long-term strategic solutions for employers, payers, health care systems and medical groups by creating employer partnerships and value-based reimbursement models.  Dana has developed educational materials for an accelerated nursing program, and served as adjunct faculty in clinical simulation for nursing students. Dana’s ability to manage shifts in health care practice, technology, and staff development has provided the framework for organizations to meet their operational and financial goals.

Dana has a Master’s Degree of Public Administration with an emphasis on non-profit management, a Master’s Degree of Business Administration, and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing.

CAH Swing Bed Manual

The Swing Bed Manual is a quick reference guide for Critical Access Hospitals (CAHs) to better understand the Medicare regulations associated with Swing Bed patients. It is not intended to be an all‐inclusive, comprehensive manual. However, it does offer resources where more detailed information may be found. This is the 14th edition of the Swing Bed Manual. All websites and telephone numbers have been tested and were found to be working as of January 2017.
