Colorado Trust’s Health Equity Learning Series

Officials from The California Endowment and Kaiser Permanente, will speak about solutions for tackling social determinants of health.

A Statewide Discussion on Prescription Drug Abuse Among Youth
Wednesday, November 20, 2013, 7:00-9:00 p.m. at Pueblo Community College, Occhiato Theater.

A free live stream event on Prescription Drug Abuse Among Youth will be available to residents in Southern Colorado. Topics include warning signs and symptoms of prescription drug abuse, national and local solutions, new overdose prevention legislation, and personal stories from affected families. The program targets parents, teachers, coaches, health care professionals, law enforcement officials and others engaged with the youth population ages 12 to 25.

Sponsors: The Southeastern Colorado Area Health Education Center (SECAHEC) in collaboration with Community Anti-Drug Coalitions of America, the Office of the Governor and the Peer Assistance Services Prescription Drug Abuse Prevention Program are sponsoring the program. Registrations are being taken at www.secahec.org.

2014 Southeastern Colorado Regional Nightingale Nurse Recognition
Nominate a nurse that exemplifies Excellence in Nursing! SECAHEC is accepting nominations through December 10, 2013 for RNs and LPNs. The local event will be in Pueblo on March 14, 2014 and the state event will be held in Denver on May 10th. Nomination forms are available at www.secahec.org. Free Health Risk Assessments
Now available to Pueblo County residents thanks to a partnership between SECAHEC and Colorado Prevention Center Community Health program. The assessment includes blood pressure, cholesterol, and blood sugar readings as well as overall risk ratings. Participants must be at least 18 years old and a resident of Pueblo County. Priority will be given to uninsured or those at risk of heart disease. Contact Shanae Gutierrez to schedule an appointment.

Living Life Well with Chronic Conditions
If you or someone you love has health problems such as diabetes, arthritis, cancer, asthma, high blood pressure or other chronic conditions, the Living Life Well with Chronic Conditions workshop can help you take control of your life. Thursdays beginning , January 9, 2014 at 1:00 pm. In addition, SECAHEC is offering a leader training to those interested in facilitating these workshops. Contact our office if you are interested in becoming a leader of this Stanford, evidence-based curriculum.

Scholarship opportunities through HRSA available to those in rural counties to attend online courses offered by PCC in Health Information Technology to address the identified need of HIT workforce in rural communities. Contact Crystal Rider for more details.
