Pueblo Community Health Center Recognized by Colorado Rural Health Center as January’s Featured Member Community
It’s a new year and a great time to recognize one of Colorado Rural Health Center’s (CRHC) newest members, Pueblo Community Health Center in Pueblo, Colorado.
Located in Southeastern Colorado, Pueblo is a multicultural community recently recognized by Livability.com as one of the Top 10 Cities for Historic Preservation. Downtown Pueblo features a mile long Historic Arkansas Riverwalk, galleries, and museums. The city attracts locals and visitors for their cultural events, such as the popular Annual Chile and Frijoles Festival celebrating Pueblo’s famous green chiles. The Sangre de Cristo Arts and Conference Center and the Pueblo Symphony also offer unique experiences with a variety of art forms. Pueblo hosts the annual Colorado State Fair, attracting headline performers and visitors from around the state and southwest region.
Like many other Colorado cities, Pueblo is a short drive from world class skiing, hiking, and other outdoor activities. Kayakers flock to the Whitewater Park on the Arkansas River, and Lake Pueblo State Park offers a wide variety of water sporting activities.
A population of over 107,000 residents call Pueblo home. These proud residents were the hosts of the 2014 NCAA Division II Football National Champions and Professional Bull Riders, Inc.
Access to quality healthcare is part of what makes a healthy community. Pueblo Community Health Center (PCHC) began providing primary health services in 1983. PCHC is an independent nonprofit organization managed by a community Board of Directors, with twelve locations throughout Pueblo and Huerfano counties.
In 2009, PCHC completed construction of its 41,000 square foot facility on 300 Colorado Avenue, allowing PCHC to serve an additional 6,000 patients. In 2014, PCHC served over 23,000 patients, provided 94,000 medical visits, and delivered 534 babies, which is 1 out of every 4 babies born in Pueblo County.
CRHC has been honored to call PCHC a partner. Specifically, PCHC has contracted with CRHC’s Colorado Provider Recruitment (CPR). CPR connects healthcare providers, who are passionate in serving safety-net patients, with their perfect Colorado home.
