The Health Disparities Program seeks to reduce health disparities among Colorado’s rural population by promoting early detection and effective treatment and disease management for respiratory diseases such as asthma, COPD, and lung cancer. The project will take a two-pronged approach of educating the public through a media campaign and through strategic connections with trusted messengers and community gatekeepers; and, educating health care practitioners through training and resource provision conducted by their peers. Outcomes will include: A) increased awareness (among public and health care providers) of respiratory disease risk factors, signs, and symptoms and an understanding of screening recommendations, and B) improved treatment and disease management for those diagnosed with a lung disease.
