Silverton-San Juan County Ambulance Association is the Primary Emergency Medical Services Provider for Silverton and San Juan County Residents
Denver, CO— Located in the heart of Colorado’s San Juan Mountains, the Silverton-San Juan County Ambulance Association (SSJCAA), provides emergency medical and trauma services (EMTS) to residents living in Silverton and San Juan counties.
The Colorado Rural Health Center (CRHC) is recognizing SSJCAA as its featured member of the month. Every month, the CRHC recognizes one of its members whose work supports the CRHC’s vision that all rural Coloradans have access to comprehensive, affordable, high quality healthcare.
EMS agencies in Colorado transport and provide quality medical care to approximately 400,000 patients each year (Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment 2014). SSJCAA has been serving residents since 1975 and is one of 200 licensed ambulance services in Colorado.
With over 700,000 tourists visiting the San Juan Mountain region every year, SSJCAA provides on-call Advanced Life Support medics 24/7 and is capable of advanced cardiovascular care, pain management, airway control and all basic life support procedures.
The SSJCAA joined CRHC’s membership in 2013 and is also a recipient of funding support through the Colorado Resource for EMS and Trauma Education (CREATE) program.
CREATE is a program developed to improve support for education to EMS and trauma providers. It is funded by the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) and managed by CRHC.
Since 2013, SSJCAA has been awarded five grants through the CREATE program, providing support for the completion of 11 courses for education and training of EMTS providers.
