CEO Update: National Rural Health Day
National Rural Health Day (NRHD) was created in 2011 by the National Organization of State Offices of Rural Health to showcase the Power of Rural through sharing of successes and recognizing our rural communities. In Colorado, CRHC is your designated State Office of Rural Health and Rural Health Association and each year we celebrate this special day by recognizing a rural community and their amazing work and dedicated team members!
This year CRHC celebrated Spanish Peaks Regional Health Center (SPRHC) located in south-central Huerfano County and the beautiful town of Walsenburg. We are proud to have this dedicated workforce in Walsenburg as a CRHC member. Some of the ways that SPRHC stands out is their incredible employee culture, proactive workforce recruitment and retention strategy, efforts with CRHC on an RHC accreditation, their invaluable veterans center, service on the CRHC board, and so much more. At the same time, we recognize SPRHC serves a very challenging patient population and despite these challenges, they have remained resilient and engaged in a variety of CRHC programs. Their work in their community is valued and appreciated. SPRHC has been caring for their community since 1963 and in 1993 build a new facility. Their mission is to “Improve the Lives We Touch” and as Huerfano County has grown and changed over the years, SPRHC has continued to identify and offer new services to keep care local.
To honor the work of all Colorado rural communities, you can find the Governor’s Proclamation that CRHC secured. I was also honored to be interviewed by Michelle Rathman from Impact Communication on the “Women Who Impact” Podcast – find the link here.
Thank you to all our rural communities on this National Rural Health Day!
